At the occasion of the 96th Academy Awards, Balenciaga dressed brand ambassador Michelle Yeoh in a custom-made silver-sequined gown. It was designed exclusively for her.
Michelle wanted a gown that was at once elegant and modern, respecting the House’s heritage while also feeling contemporary. To create it, Demna assembled three vintage couture dresses individually sourced on eBay for their intricate embroideries and paillettes. The deconstructed dresses were sewn together and folded over to show an inner lining at the top, hinting at the gown’s own upcycling process.
