Drunk on booze and anger, there's a price he'd pay.
He chased his sister to the church, in his hand a gun.
Murder and anger in his eyes, he watched his sister run.
She hid inside the rundown church, panting and afraid.
Cody came in through the door his choice already made.
His aim was poor as the shots rang out, as she cried and prayed.
She screamed and yelled for help to come, hoping to be saved.
Two men shot, and one man died, one life taken, one left alive.
Shots rang out with a terrible sound, a dark day in a little town.
In a small trailer home, a few steps away, lived the pastor of that church on that dark, dark day.
The pastor had a choice to make. Should he run away?
But the choice he made that day, was the choice to stay.
As he walked into his church, Cody raised his gun.
Told the pastor just to leave and let his crime be done.
The pastor said he wouldn't go - his thoughts were for the girl.
Cody said that she would die, but the pastor stood his ground.
Two men shot, and one man died, one life taken, one left alive.
Shots rang out with a terrible sound, a dark day in a little town.
Cody's eyes were full or rage as he changed where he aimed. The pastor's eyes were full of tears, as he did the same.
Both men shot and both shot true, blood flowed free and fast.
But the pastor lived that day, and Cody breathed his last.
Two men shot, and one man died, one life taken, one left alive.
Shots rang out with a terrible sound, a dark day in a little town.
