Khabuya Vanessa Marion, born in Uganda, Jinja is a dancehall artist known by her stage name, KVAN. Kvan refers to herself as the "goodest girl in the city" because she believes in her own originality, uniqueness and simplicity. The dancehall artist is of Bugisu origin. Kvan went to school in Kampala. Kvan kept her desire to make music in secret from her parents because they were not as musically informed. I was afraid they would reject my plans. She writes her lyrics too.
Kvan started music from 8 years of age. She used to write musical pieces and even form groups. (2013-2014) made appearances in different studies, (2016-2017) made another attempt to go to the studios. (2017) recorded her first single (Show Dem), which basically emphasized all the others like her with a dream as big as hers to show the world its value. (Back) basically was a song to attract positive energy, by telling those who do not believe that they should step back. (Tabaaza) is a ballad of love. (Sugar Daddy) came at a time when she was in her first year in college, she was inspired by how she saw girls go for money through the sex of old and wealthy men. Kvan has made collaborations with artists like, Dj Fikie.
Consequently, Kvan was ignored for her distinctive style of music. The producers told her that she was a male voice vacuum cleaner. Kvan had it difficult for the time of the study because she was young and could not converse so well with adult producers. She came to the studio early, but even so, her possibilities were given to artists who were considered prominent. Sometimes she was made to write pieces for people she found in the studio. She did not have funds to support her study sessions. In 2019 her music was presented to the CEO of Black Market Records and she was offered a deal and she was signed.
Kvan finds her musical inspiration from the things that happen around her and, what is important to her, nature. Kvan does not look at any musical icon for inspiration. However, I used to listen to artists like Beenie Man, Missy Eliot, Shabba Ranx, Maxi Priest, Plies, Shaggy and Sean Paul. In addition to music, Kvan is a painter, a basketball player, a football player, a piano player and also performs rhythms.
