Q - Take Me Where Your Heart Is. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
Considering how difficult it is to search Q’s name, it's impressive that his “Take Me Where Your Heart Is” video has more than a million views. Both D’Angelo’s progressive R&B and Childish Gambino’s clever experimentalism helped shade Q’s ‘Forest Green’ and ‘The Shave Experiment' EPs. The singer has said both artists inspire him. Also influential are his musician parents, Jamaican immigrants who had success in the dancehall scene. By the way, you can thank Q’s dad for giving his son the unusual first name. Like many artists of his generation, the 21-year-old is open about his anxieties; he’s said that the studio is one of the few places he finds peace of mind. Q grew up in South Florida, where the rap scene initially had him emulating local hip-hop heroes like Kodak Black and Ski Mask the Slump God. Around age 17 he turned to “alternative sounds,” which provided him with more artistic control. That decision has worked out nicely. Complex recently called him one of 2020's most exciting rising artists. We fully agree. Q hasn’t played songs from either EP at a proper show yet, so it was great seeing the DSCVR rendition of “Take Me Where Your Heart Is.” He has another project on the way, too, and the “Want" performance will give you a feel for a new upbeat retro sound. When it comes to Q, we can’t wait to hear what’s in store.
