UPSAHL - Thriving. An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
Taylor Upsahl's deep love of songwriting comes through in the way her music fearlessly tackles life’s edgier subjects. The daughter of a Phoenix punk rocker who would host touring bands after local gigs, young Taylor was enamored with the musician's life early on. In high school, she wrote, recorded, and released three albums. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles and settled on the artist name UPSAHL, because her “family played such a role” in her music. Summing up her work ethos, she’s said: “When I’m writing songs that are vulnerable and real and 'This is me, sorry about it, that’s when I feel the most badass.” In L.A., that attitude led to penning tracks for Anne Marie, Dua Lipa, and Madison Beer. Then she wrote “Drugs,” which was so raw that initially she couldn’t fathom releasing it under her own name. With encouragement from her team, though, she did, and considers that decision a turning point in her career. Soon, “Drugs” was soundtracking more than 2M TikTok vids and putting her name on the pop map. UPSAHL's recent ‘Lady Jesus’ debut will take her even farther, and our DSCVR team was stoked to capture her performing songs from it. Both “Time of my Life” and “Thriving” kick off with punchy bass lines before exploding into cathartic choruses. We were totally impressed with UPSAHL’s sesh, and are sure you’ll be blown away by her badass ways as well.
