Some singers sound like they can tear down a wall. Others come off like they want to nuzzle all night. Put Pheelz in the latter category, especially on his super sensual spin through "Ballin'" in our Ctrl studio. The acclaimed Nigerian producer is making some solo artist moves these days, and with each new track, he reveals a bit more of himself. So far, versatility is the name of the game. "Finesse" has a quick-steppin version with French Montana and a more mellow prototype with BNXN Fka Buju. "Electricity" pairs him with Davido, and delivers a dance groove built on both fire and finesse. To some degree, that's Pheelz's vibe: getting people moving while still assuring that the beats are super graceful. Olamide, Fireboy DML, Mr. Eazy, Akon, Simi, Lil Kesh, Teni, Tiwa Savage - a variety of artists from a variety of countries have enjoyed the 28-year old's production wisdom. In conversation Pheelz recalls a simple upbringing full of family, church and school, but admits that he has studio skills and assures that record producing is now his "life" - you can hear the commitment in his voice when he says it. But maybe the on-stage fun is closing in. The Lagos native has said it felt really good when he hit London's O2 Arena a couple days after release of "Finesse," and 20 thousand people sang the refrain back to him. That didn't happen at his "Ballin'" and "Electricity" performances, but there were definitely a lot of goosebumps in the room.
