Biography:
Kafeero Umaru professionally known as Oma Africana is an Ugandan singer /songwriter. He comes from a family of four brothers and one sister. In 2006, he lost his dad and his role model in life. After the death of the dad, the family started living a hard and miserable life. His mother decided to send the children to the village to start living with their uncle and grand mother because f the hardship. The time spent in the village was not easy. It was hard adapting to village life but with Allah's grace, the situation came back to normal with time.
During his stay in the village, he met a friend called Octopus who dearly loved music and indeed was a great singer. Octopus shared a vision he about music and they needed to start singing with immediate effect. Oma Africana used to call him self Brodwin.
Upon his return to Kampala to be with his mother but still the situation in the city was a complete disaster. He started hustling and looking for jobs, in order to raise some money to for his music career. His first job was selling books at the road. After finding a few jobs he eventually started saving money. He worked tirelessly but still didn't have enough money to go to a good studio. His talent came to the attention of Andy Music, gave him the first deal to write and record a song for her child called Tanisha.
As he continued to hustle, he met the Ugandan dancehall superstar Beenie Gunter. He was then introduced to Imon Pro and recorded a song with him. During that time, he was joined by his brother A Steyn and decided to record the songs, called “Kilomidi” and “Shuga.” After a few months, A Steyn introduced him to Eddy Kenzo who dearly liked his music also. Eddy Kenzo gave him a chance to record music from his studio Bangs Records at no cost. Allah gave him another to work under the legendary company Black Market Records.
