It's great to have singing and songwriting skills, but without a true talent for presentation, an artist might not reach the level of success they're shooting for. Jake Wesley Rogers writes and sings his tunes, and they sound strong on his records. But audiences start shaking their heads in disbelief when he takes the stage, as he does in our two Dscvr performances, "Weddings & Funerals" and "Middle of Love." Beautifully shot, they capture the newcomer at his demonstrative, courageous, and entertaining best. The Missouri native has bounced around the country for the past couple of years, but his talent was first recognized in LA. After a couple of indie EPs, the singer's tunes became sturdier and sturdier, leveling-up with each passing year. There he impressed hitmaker/songwriter Justin Tranter, who bolstered Rogers self-confidence and amplified his gifts. 2021 finds him being one of pop's most buzzed-about young talents. American Songwriter magazine says his "bold music is queer storytelling refracted through a universal lens." Well put. It doesn't come much bolder than the show he put on in our Brooklyn studios.
