So when Tai Verdes stumbled on the chorus of his breakout track “A-O-K,” he was wise to bank on two things: a. Everyone loves lemonade and b. Everyone could relate. The chill Cali dude who grew up hooping when he wasn’t in jam seshes knows quite a bit about the power of positivity. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Verdes worked at a Verizon store between auditions on talent shows. When everything shutdown, he made the most of the opportunity, doubling down on his musical passion. Considering everyone’s collective mental state, it’s no surprise that folks wanted to sun in the mood-warming rays of “A-O-K.” It topped the all new TikTok chart for multiple weeks in a row. Another artist who knows about virality in the time of lockdown, 24kGoldn, hopped on a remix of the track. This year, Tai’s debut album, ‘TV,’ proved that his carefree formula isn’t a one-off yield. “DRUGS” and “Stuck In The Middle” have had major viral moments, and, more importantly, show off his range as a dynamic alt-pop contender.
