Bellah’s rich R&B feels like chocolate melting in your mouth. A certain comfort marks everything from the North London singer’s 2019 ‘Last Train Home’ debut to this year’s ‘Adultsville’ EP. Her voice is expressive but never overwrought. And thanks to lyrics of empowerment, family, and self-worth, Bellah is one of those artists that give off bestie energy. Last year the newcomer’s “Evil Eye,” an Afrobeat-tinged track that's become her biggest hit so far, cued props from heroes such as Tems and SZA (the latter’s words, Bellah says, gave her “hope"). You can probably guess the theme of ‘Adultsville.’ “My position in life is changing, so many things are changing for me, and I wanted to talk about it,” she explains. The move from youth to adulthood isn’t easy, but like any good pal, Bellah wraps an arm around your shoulder, ready to sort out the bumps in the road. Bathed in the purple hues of our DSCVR studio, she delivers the stellar vocals of “Garden” with the help of some rock guitar distortion. Keep an eye out, there’s more on the way.
